Here's the January concert break, so I got the idea to modulate the iPad to MixingStation, so I can control Chamys wirelessly. Sure, Chamys Remote, or even if Light Rider is an alternative to light controls, but they are when there are separate apps, so here the idea is to take care of everything with one and the same app, which makes the switch from sound to light in seconds.
Let's start by going through the surface of that sound side of the road, if it's interesting. 🙂
At the top of the left side there are different flaps (monitor, channel, FX and Lights). I also left the "home" button, because if I accidentally return from the monitor view with MS's own "back" button, then the selected Sands on Fader will remain, and will not return to the official LR mix. Home namiska always reset the SoF selection.
Then take a look at that monitor view next.
The view is pretty much normal, except for the chicken groups, when I have a basic view on the left side, so I did the same here. Top mix options that activate the traditional style of the SoF function. The return of the basic mix to the view with the Home button, which reset the SoF. There is a perfectly standard view of the SoF, and the channel groups are both on the right side, but in this style, I think that is clearer.
The next step in the transition is the Channel, which I did not make any major changes to.
I just brought the chicken block as big as the screen. This is because for some plugers the settings of the mix view in the channel block are so small that it is difficult to make changes to them. With this model, the size of the plugin window can be maximized. Below is an example of a multiband campus, which is one of the plugers, which are somewhat challenging in a shared view. Of course, the parameters are also very visible, but you don't want to get anything out of the graphic.
The next transition is the FX window, which is a direct link to the effect rack. There's no custom here, so I didn't take the picture.
The next "Lights" is a case so different that we should go through this, just at the end of the story.
There is a normal chicken block next to the visuals and the mud groups on the right. The last of the mutants is the FX (singing effects), which is made slightly larger and placed in a different spot from the others. This mutt is going to be pushed the most. Next to the FX mute, the rap delays for two different delays. I've always liked to use echo and one basic delay through the song and another delay for some ravings. In these differences, different plugari, as well as tempo may be half faster or slower, depending on the situation. Over the spots, a couple of plug-ins to the drum echoes. The right controller for the basic reverse of the drums decay and the left gate plate level. I'll raise Gate Plate sometimes, if I want more "barracks" in snare. 🙂
There were still buttons in between for the activation of Re- Gain, as well as the canteen solo (the button at the bottom will reset all the solos).
Under these, on the left side, there are the normal channel groups in the view, from which the DAs are hidden when I do not use them very much. Of course, you can get them out by scrolling, too. The first button under the chicken groups is the Player button to kick in, for example, the intros. The button at the bottom opens the Player window, where you can select a playable intro, or, respectively, you can start either a USB record or a Wing WLive (as a multi-track).
Next, Alt Source's choice (button on bottom, so that you don't accidentally hit the finger in the middle of the job). With this, you can make a virtual check, when you choose WLive to run some of the previous recording.
Next up are RF sticks, and the bottom is TalkBack.
Kanavista näkyy normaalit 16 kanavaa, sekä niiden vierellä lähinnä lauluefektien liuvut: Kaiku, FX delay, normi delay ja sitten jokin vaihtuva erikoisefekti, joka nyt sattui tässä olemaan chorus. Tätä tulee melko harvoin käytettyä, mutta joskus voi olla tilanteita, että tarvii jotain erikoisempaa efektointia, niin tässä kanava sille.
Mutta mikä se Lights -leiska oikein olikaan?
MixingStation kun on puhtaasti miksereiden ohjauksen tehty, eikä siinä ole Art-Nettiä tai mitään muuta valojen ohjaukseen tarkoitettua toimintoa tai protokollaa…
Lights nappi avaa oheisen näkymän (tässä kohtaa valojen koodaus oli vielä kesken ja osa napeista nimettömiä).
Tässä leiskassa ryhmittelin namiskoja eri lamppuryhmien mukaan, niin saan polettua niitä helposti ristiin rastiin, eikä kaikki ole määritetty ennalta ”liian valmiiksi”.. Jokainen nappi antaa oman MIDI-käskyn (kanava & nuotti), ja sylkee Midi over Network -protokollana samassa verkossa olevaan läppäriin. Läppärissä pyörii ChamSysin MacigQ, jossa MIDI-toiminnot on aktivoitu, sekä Makrot kuuntelemassa saapuvia sanomia.
Sysin makrot käynnistelee sitten Executeen valmiiksi kolvattuja toimintoja eri lamppuryhmille.
Jotta tällainen on mahdollista, tarvii MagicQ olla täysin aktivoitu ja minulla onkin käytössä ChamSys MagicQ Mini Connect, joka aktivoi täyden softan. Läppäriltä tai mini connectilta voi ajaa sysiä myös ihan normaalisti samaan aikaan, eli nämä ei sulje toisiaan pois ja antaa vain enemmän vaihtoehtoja varsinkin kun seison yleensä jossain yleisön joukossa pelkkä pädi kourassa.
Keikalla tätä en ole vielä ehtinyt kokeileen, mutta ainakin alkutestailut on varsin lupaavia ja antaa mahdollisuuden hoitaa yhdellä pädillä äänet, sekä valot ilman, että tarvii hyppiä apista toiseen. Latenssia näissä saattaa aavistus olla, mutta ainakin kotioloissa se ei ollut paha ja kun ajatus on vain käynnistellä valmiita ajoja, niin pieni latenssi ei siinä haittaa..
Uusimmassa MixingStationin päivityksessä tuli muuten makrot myös MS:ään. Tämä mahdollistaa eri toimien tekemisen jonkin triggerin pohjalta, esim vaikka jonkin kanavan input tason triggeröimänä..
Tätä tarvii varmaan jossain kohtaa testailla, että mitä kaikkea tuolla voikaan tehdä.
Sellaisia tuli mieleen, että esim spiikkikeikoilla joissa on jotain taustamusaa & spiikkausta, voisi tuolla automatisoida taustamusaa pienemmälle, kun spiikki alkaa. Toki hoituu myös sidechain kompuralla, mutta ehkä tuo antaisi enemmän vaihtoehtoja. Toinen voisi olla vaikka lauluefektien automaattinen mutetus kun kitarat tai basso hiljenee ja efektit taas päälle, kun soitto jatkuu..
Mutta, tarinoidaan tuosta sitten kun saan siitä polkastua jotain testiä.. 🙂
