9.4.2022 - RT Band @ Petrelli Saloon, Oulu

A party band consisting of long-line musicians, as well as sound professionals, RT Band asked me to mix up their Petrelli gig, and I did, so that's all I had to do.

Watti-Matti from Livesalet plays bass in the band, and it was agreed that he would bring in the equipment he needed. It was also decided that we should go to the house on our own BosePA and Behkun X Air Mixer.
The build-up of the stuff and the microwave went smoothly, even though it seemed a bit crowded on a small stage.
♪ Matti brought the little Turbosound ♪ Milan-series of active cabinets, which worked well for saunas and size in the space. Some compromises had to be made when the drummer needed an IEM channel and the mixer left only three channels on the monitors. The singer was therefore given double moners, and then one monitor for both of them.

When I finished all the connections, I started taking over the mixer. At the same time, I noticed that the mixer Wlan connection is not quite the best, and the connection between the cap and the mixer seemed to be poking carefully. Matt had one separate router on the way, and they tried to connect it to the mixer. The network was found with a strong signal, but the mixer itself was not connected with any of the lessons. After a while of pain, it was decided that, before the start of the job, we should try another router.

So, the micert's own wlan is back on the fire, and I started picking up some channel gain levels. At the same time, "something" happened on stage? Basso's knob went dark, and the other guitar went dead, too. The currents came in both still, i.e. probably some power surge in the electrical network that darkened the equipment. However, the guitar button finally went off, but the bass button didn't like the power shot.
At the same time, it was said that the soudcheck was here, and we had to go home before the show started. Matti promised to bring another bass knob, and a router.

I also stopped by the house and returned to Petrelli an hour before the show started. Matti changed the knob, and we started experimenting with another Router. This is the same thing, the network is there, but the mixer wasn't even a solid IP, and DHCP was on. All it does is go to a gig on the mixer's own net. Damn it!

The other guys showed up, and we made channel check (gain levels, and very fast EQ adjustment) for all the players.
The gig starts, and I was able to get the balance in place quite quickly, while making more precise adjustments to the EQs. You couldn't help but notice that the connection to the mixer was constantly breaking down. The first set went reasonably well, however, although I reset during the concert several times. The further the job went, the more the mixer was in the hillbilly.

After the first set, the band took a little break, and before the second set started, I went back to reset. The second set starts, and for practically the first song, I had a connection with the mixer and the rest of the second set without any control. Now it's done it to destroy the entire Wla network, and it couldn't have been recovered without the mixer bot. The bot, on the other hand, was so risky in the middle of the job, that when, by the way, everything works, then we'll go with this, and I'll boot the gadgets only if there's an urgent need.

I don't know what made me think of the job of Afterworld in Tullisali December 2021 (this is also where the post is on the pages), and whether these digital gadgets are somehow starting to reject me?

The show finally went in the direction of the audience great, and I don't think anyone in the audience noticed the technical challenges, even though the room was almost full and the atmosphere was refreshed, and that's the main thing, though. 🙂
