Recording (spring 2022)

At the end of February, the Mastervox studio started recording drums for two bands with the same drummer. Use these bands now, like, "A" and "S."

Drums

As far as the A band is concerned, it was agreed that we would record the drums, and the songs, maybe at some point later, but the S band was supposed to stick everything in a jar during the spring.
In the first 5-day sessions, the drums were then canned in total 21 pieces. The channels gathered quite nicely (18 songs / song), although the set was not very large. Below are the listings, as well as the used mikes, where the sessions were stored in the form 24b / 96Khz.

And thank you to J.Ervelius, too, for coming to see the drums.

1 BD - Telefunken M82
SubKick - Custom
3 SD top - Telefunken M80 SH
4 SD bottom - Ovid system
5 TT - Sennheiser E904
6 TT - Sennheiser E904
7 FT - Audio-Technica ATM230
8-9 OH (stereo) - Audio-Technica AT 2050
10-11 OHB (Stereo) - the t.bone RB 500
12 Neumann TLM102
13 HH - Shure SM 7B
14-15 Room (Stereo) - Audio-Technica AT 2050
16-17 Roomm2 (Stereo / roof installation) - Behringer B-1
18 Room mono - The Periscope

And, yes, you noticed right! 7B's in the haze. 🙂
This was the kind of test I've wanted to try for longer, and I can tell you that it wasn't the last time.

Guitar

In the middle of the month, comp guitars were continued in the first round, which lasted two days. For this S band, 10 songs were traceable. The button on the guitars was Peavey 6505 + and the cabinet was excellent Mesan 4 × 12 guitar button. Even in guitars, sufficient channels were recovered:

1 - Sennheiser MD421-2 (vintage version)
2 – Sennheiser E906
3 – Shure SM57
4 – Telefunken M82

This time, it went like this.

Basso

Next week, they jumped into the Basses. The studio had just one day before the Heritage Audion BritStrip, which is a 1073-style chicken block. It was absolutely necessary to try the campus on bass recordings. Nuppina Ampeg SVT-4PRO and as a locker (visible in the background) probably Ampeg SVT-810AV (or someone of its style) 🙂 ). For two days, bass was channeled as follows:

1 – Telefunken M82
2 - Sennheiser MD421-2 (vintage version)
3 – Heritage Audio BritStrip (DI)

After the bass, there was another set of compi guitars, which was done with the same coverage as the previous one. Lead guitars were also recorded in the same sessions with the comps. The solos were supposed to rub them at home, then send me the filet. There were two films, one with a crack sound that the guitar player had used for recording, and the other was clean, and I could watch the sound either by retapping, or with a plug.

Song

He needs a soloist.

Then, at the end of April, we went to the recording of songs. These sessions were agreed to be taken at a peaceful pace up to 2 sessions per week. At the time of writing this (mid-May) we have only recorded half of the songs. The cycle has gone virtually 1 session a week and max 2 songs a session. The songs should be in the can in May. And those channels (mic + preamp):

1 - Vanguard Audio Labs V13 (tube mic) & Heritage Audio BritStrip
2 – Shure SM 7B & AMS Neve 88RLB

Songs recording

Update to the situation 23.5.2022

The songs were mostly canned in six sessions. In practice, lead, double / triple of all kerts, as well as some backs. Of course, there's still a separate "background song session" coming, and a possible place for leeds, if there's anything to patch up.

The second time, the studio had a little problem. The sessions I / O were somewhat confused, even though they tried to open the same session that was massaged last time. The problem was reflected in the fact that the monitors only heard from the left speaker, and the Klang listening system used by artists was dead.

I ended up getting the artist to listen, and I'm on just one monitor, so I started working on the Klang problem. First it's traditional: boozing all possible colors, like Mac Pro himself, MTRX3xHD I / O, Sync HD, Klang fabrik & controller, router, etc..

After the boot, the same bug still on. Fortunately, this is where the studio host came to help. The studio in question has fairly complex rags, of which I am not on a cart, and yet it does not bother to confuse DADMAN with just "let's try what he does..." In Pro Tools, we reset the session I / O setups and found that the Klang groups are still not right. Well, they were now handset (once found that they should be) and listening to play at least in the direction of the artist.

Well, then, on the studio monitors. Our time, as well as Pro Tools and DADMAN, when we've been surveyed, was noticed that the signal is coming from Pro Tools to channels 1 and 3 in DADMAN, even though it should be 1 & 2 channels. Fortunately, there was an easy way to fix this, when only two-thirds of the setupins were replaced, and things were rocking again.

The mystery remains, what happened between the sessions? And if something positive, then at the same time has become more familiar with DADman and Klang 🙂

Well, I'm sure you don't want much of the synagogue, but I'm sure there's gonna be a little midgie bag. There is also going to be a session for background songs, which will be used by another soloist. These stories, when something happens. 🙂

Oh, yeah. When you didn't remember to take a picture of BritStrip, here's an interweb bolted image of the thing:
